Himedik.com – Until now there have been 25 cases of reinfection corona virus. It was reported that one of the patients from the Netherlands had died after being infected for the second time.

The patient, an 89 year old woman is believed to be a case of death due to infection Covid-19 first reset.

According to The Health Site, when the patient was first infected, he developed symptoms of a high fever and a severe cough.

He was discharged from the hospital five days later with two negative PCR tests and his symptoms disappeared.

After two months, he was again infected with a different type of corona virus. This woman had fever, cough and severe shortness of breath, so she had to be hospitalized again.

Before second infectionIt turned out that this woman had Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia, a rare form of bone marrow cancer, which appears to have weakened her immune system.

He was reinfected on two days of chemotherapy treatment and died two weeks later.

Reinfection Causes More Severe Symptoms

The study, published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases, also reports the first confirmed case of Covid-19 reinfection in the United States.

A 25-year-old man from Nevada was infected with two variants SARS-CoV-2 different within a 48 day period. The patient was infected for the first time in April and positive for the second time in June.

According to reports, the patient developed more severe symptoms during the second infection, even though he did not have any immune problems or comorbidities. Make it must get oxygen assistance.

Symptoms that are felt during the second infection are fever, headache, dizziness, cough, nausea, and diarrhea.

Now, the patient has recovered and is discharged from the hospital.

There are several hypotheses about the severity of the second infection. One theory is that it is possible that Covid-19 patients were exposed to a higher quantity of the virus, which causes a more severe reaction.

Another hypothesis suggests that the patient has been infected with a more virulent type of corona virus.

Another plausible reason, according to the researchers, is the antibody-dependent enhancement mechanism.

Some of the protective proteins produced by the immune system during the first infection can exacerbate subsequent infections. This mechanism was also seen in SARS, as well as dengue fever.

While much remains unknown about SARS-CoV-2 infection and immune system response, these findings suggest that previous infections may not warrant protection against infection at other times, said Mark Pandori, lead author of the study from the University of Nevada.
