Diogenes Chávez, deputy director of the Departmental Health Region of Cortés, told LA PRENSA that currently they only have two of the medicines that make up “Maiz”, but on Tuesday they will receive those that are necessary for them to start being used in health establishments.

Chávez explained that “Maiz” is a prehospital treatment, so it is essential that people who suspect that they may be infected or have any symptoms of COVID-19 go to the triage centers to be evaluated and have a timely approach. .

He clarified that the “Catracho” is a clinical trial with which already hospitalized patients are being assisted and which is giving effective results.

Of about 500 patients who had “Catracho” applied at the regional Social Security hospital, only two died. In the ICU, case fatality dropped from 50% to less than 10%.

Carlos Umaña, president of the Ihss Medical Association, noted that for a month they have been working with “Catracho”, Which is preventing serious patients from requiring intubation with mechanical ventilation. Likewise, the length of stay in intensive care is reduced from 17 days to months.

Hospital reorganization.

Roberto Cosenza, Vice Minister of Health, indicated that they have reorganized the system to have greater capacity for hospital response to coronavirus patients.

In this context, he pointed out that the work focuses on the reference mechanism considering that people who acquire the virus go through several stages: mild, moderate and an intensive care phase.

“But the objective is not that the patient requires an in-hospital admission, but that the patient remains stable in the first phase and that he has his treatment and a timely diagnosis,” he said.

He stressed that the city’s hospitals have managed to increase their capacity, as Leonardo Martínez currently has 100 beds and 62 mechanical fans and Mario Rivas with 31 beds and 10 fans.
