“On to chemo 7”, but actress Ann Van den Broeck can be seen again in musical ‘Mamma Mia!’ (Antwerp)

Actress Ann Van den Broeck (45) came out this week with the news that she has breast cancer. She announces on Instagram that she is receiving chemotherapy, but for now, the actress is doing well. So good that she will be on the stage of the Antwerp City Theater on Friday for the revival of Oh mama!.

Van den Broeck plays one of the leading roles in the musical Oh mama!, which will be resumed on Friday in the Stadsschouwburg in Antwerp. The musical was shut down in 2020 after just one week due to corona, and then resumed in the summer of 2021. Due to great success, the performance is now back, with Ann Van den Broeck.

Next Friday, the actress will give the best of herself together with her colleagues during the first evening performance. She will continue to do those performances as long as her health allows it. At the matinee performances she is alternately replaced by Ann De Winne and Marleen van der Loo. Leading actor Michiel De Meyer, who just became a dad and is playing in another musical this summer will be replaced door Dorian LiveynsJames Cooke’s husband.

Van den Broeck already announced on Instagram on Tuesday that she is “going well for the time being”. “At the moment I don’t have too many side effects besides fatigue,” she writes. “On to chemo 7!”

She also thanks everyone who sent her messages of support, tips and invites for chats after her announcement. “That does something to a person”, it sounds. The actress indicates that she hesitated for a long time to share her story, but that she did it to break the taboo surrounding breast cancer. She calls on women and men to have regular check-ups.
