This Easter, the Riga Chamber Choir “Ave Sol” and its artistic director Andris Veismanis continue the annual tradition of playing an Easter concert in one of Riga’s churches, and this year it will be one of the most beautiful churches in Riga – Riga Cathedral.

Easter is an important Christian holiday, commemorating the resurrection of Christ after the crucifixion. The liturgical color of Easter is white, which symbolizes light, clarity and joy – it is a day of joy. In accordance with this mood, the Riga Chamber Choir “Ave Sol” will offer a concert program “Resurrection”.

The compositions of the concert program can be described in two words – musical upliftment. It was a great pleasure to include in the program such diverse but beautiful sacred works of Latvian composers, which sound especially fulfilled in the Riga Dome Church, “says conductor Andris Veismanis about the concert program.

In the concert, the outstanding artist and organist Aigars Reinis will sit at the Riga Dome organ. The most important solo parts will be entrusted to the leading soloists of the Riga Chamber Choir “Ave Sol”. Conductors – artistic director Andris Veismanis and Jurģis Cābulis.

The Riga Chamber Choir “Ave Sol” was founded in 1969 and became its artistic director by Professor Imants Kokars. The main task of the choir was to encourage Latvian composers to work in the direction of contemporary choral music, expanding the repertoire of Latvian choirs. Many musically high-quality works have been made, many of which are especially dedicated to the chamber choir “Ave Sol”. Choir artists under the direction of Imants Kokars have popularized Latvian choir art both in Latvia and in many concert tours and festivals around the world.

Over time, the choir became a musical business card of the city of Riga, an integral part of the cultural heritage of Riga and Latvia. Success has been achieved by participating in numerous international competitions, as well as playing music with world-famous conductors and orchestras.

From 2000 to the autumn of 2013, Uldis Kokars was the artistic director and chief conductor of the Riga Chamber Choir “Ave Sol”, but since October 2013, the chief conductor of the choir has been Andris Veismanis.
