On the beach in Massa with his sick son he asks for social distancing: insulted by two bathers

As reported by Il Tirreno, a tourist from northern Italy, the woman has been in Massa since June 18 to allow her 13-year-old son, seriously ill and waiting for another operation at Gaslini in Genoa, to breathe sea air , take baths and long walks. The boy underwent a trachea transplant six months ago. Last Saturday the woman and her son had rented an umbrella on a free equipped beach, when two tourists, finding no place, settled down a few centimeters from the boy, sitting on his deck chair.

When asked to leave, the mother was told: “Covid does not exist and if your child is sick, keep it closed in the house”. The woman had to leave the beach, despite being defended by numerous swimmers. “My son, who is very fragile – he says – is afraid of returning to the sea and therefore in these days we have remained completely isolated in our residence. We are well, and I thank the many demonstrations of solidarity that have come to us”.

The mayor of Massa Francesco Persiani expressed his regret for the incident, offering the woman support and help, should he need support in the days he will still spend on the coast.
