On Monday the signing of the Sudanese framework agreement

Khartoum / Adel Abdel Rahim / Anatolia

The Forces of the Declaration of Freedom and Change announced on Friday that the civilian and military parties have agreed to sign the political framework agreement next Monday.

A statement released by the forces (former coalition government) said in a statement that a meeting was held in the evening which was attended by representatives of the forces who signed the political declaration (last month) with the army commander, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the commander of the rapid support forces, Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo Hamidati.

And those forces, according to the statement, are the Forces for Freedom and Change, the Sudanese Revolutionary Front, the original Democratic Unionist Party and the People’s Congress.

The statement added that the meeting took place with “an international and regional presence, led by the tripartite mechanism and ambassadors from the Quartet, the Troika and the European Union”.

And he added that the meeting “discussed the willingness of the Sudanese parties to initiate the signing of the framework political agreement which establishes the establishment of a transitional civil authority which will assume the burden of implementing the tasks of the glorious revolution of December and complete the path towards achieving its goals”.

And the press release continues: “The parties have agreed that the signing will take place next Monday, December 5, which will be directly followed by the phase of defining the details of some issues with the broadest participation of the forces of the revolution and of the interested subjects, on which the the transitional constitution will be established and the institutions of the transitional authority will be established in a period not exceeding a few weeks”.

The statement called on “all forces of the revolution to unify, organize ranks, and integrate all instruments of peaceful political action in a way that leads to the achievement of the goals of the December Revolution and the establishment of a sustainable democratic civil transition.” .

In turn, the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan said in a statement that “the signing of the framework agreement next Monday will take place in the local and international presence, and paves the way for a new phase in the country”.

The press release adds that today’s meeting “discussed the developments of the political process and underlined the agreements reached which were summarized in the political framework agreement, which constitutes the basis for the resolution of the political crisis”.

According to the council statement, “the agreement remains open for discussion and participation by the other agreed parties, to develop it in the second phase into a definitive agreement and transitional constitutional provisions, within a few weeks”.

This is a “prelude to the formation of a civilian authority that will lead the transition period, leading to free and fair elections,” according to the same statement.

On 25 October 2021, the chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, announced exceptional measures, according to which the Sovereignty Council and the transitional ministers were dissolved, during which a state of emergency was declared , officials and politicians were arrested and the governors (governors) were fired.

Since that day, Sudan has witnessed popular protests calling for the return of civilian rule and rejecting the exceptional measures that al-Burhan’s opponents consider a “military coup”.

And before the Burhan procedures, since 11 August 2019, Sudan was living in a transition phase that ended with elections in early 2024, during which power would be shared between the army, civilian forces and armed movements that they signed a peace deal with the government in 2020.

And last November 16, the Forces for the Declaration of Freedom and Change in Sudan announced that it had approved a concept of a framework agreement with the military component.
