The capital’s election commission hopes to be able to accept lists of candidates who have applied tomorrow, according to capacity.

It is planned that at 12 o’clock the joint list could be submitted by the party association “For Development / For!” and the party “Progresīvie”, at 13 o’clock the list would be submitted by the New Conservative Party, at 14 o’clock by the party “Honor to serve Riga”, at 15 o’clock the party “Harmony” and at 16 o’clock the joint list would be submitted by the national association “Everything for Latvia!” and Freedom “/ LNNK and the Association of Latvian Regions.

Preliminarily, the list could be submitted by “Jaunā Vienotība” on July 15 and by the “Alternative” party on July 17 at 2 p.m.

There are 12 possible lists of candidates, but it is not known whether the representatives of all 12 lists will apply for the elections.

As reported, from Tuesday, July 14 to July 20, it will be possible to submit lists of candidates for the August 29 Riga City Council extraordinary elections, Laura Zaharova, a representative of the Central Election Commission (CEC), informed LETA.

Lists of candidates for deputies must be submitted to the Riga City Election Commission, Congress House, Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street 5, Riga, Room 308. Submission of the list must be requested in advance by calling 67026081.

The lists will be available on Tuesday, July 14, from 12 noon to 4 pm, on Wednesday, July 15 from 4 pm to 8 pm, on Thursday, July 16, from 12 noon to 4 pm, on Friday, July 17, from noon. 14 to 18, Saturday, July 18, from 10 to 14, Sunday, July 19, from 10 to 14 and Monday, July 20, from 12 to 18.

Voters will be able to get acquainted with the submitted lists of candidates, pre-election programs and information about candidates on the website “rd2020.cvk.lv” and during the election week also at polling stations.

Lists of candidates for deputies for the Riga City Council elections may be submitted by registered political parties, registered associations of registered political parties, as well as two or more registered political parties which have not merged into a registered association of political parties.

Citizens of Latvia or other European Union Member States who have reached the age of at least 18 on the day of elections and are registered in the Latvian Register of Voters and who are not subject to the restrictions on candidacy prescribed by law have the right to participate in local elections as candidates for deputies.

In order to stand for election to the Riga City Council, on the day of submitting the list of candidates, a deputy must meet at least one of the following conditions: real estate.

The list of candidates and the documents attached to it shall be prepared using the CEC application, to which the authors of the lists of candidates may request access to the Riga City Election Commission.

The number of candidates on the list may exceed the number of deputies to be elected to the City Council by three candidates. 60 deputies must be elected in the Riga City Council, thus the maximum number of candidates in one list is 63. A pre-election program must be added to the list of candidates, the amount of which does not exceed 4,000 imprints.

The security deposit for the list of candidates for the Riga City Council elections is 850 euros. The security shall be released if the list of candidates wins at least one seat in the election. The rest of the list security is transferred to the municipal budget.

There will be no number on the lists of candidates for deputies in the Riga City Council elections, but the order in which the marks in the polling stations (whose list mark will be on the surface) will be arranged will be determined by lot.

The election will take place on August 29, and you will be able to vote for a few hours or more a day during the previous voting from August 26 to August 28. When staying at the polling station, voters will have to keep a distance of two meters, disinfect their hands, use a mouth and nose mask. Voters who do not have their own face shield will be issued a disposable face mask at the polling station. Voters are also invited to use their own pens at the polling station, but if the voter does not have such an option, each voter will be provided with their own pen at the polling station.
