On average more than 3,000 infections per day, number of new …

The seven-day average of the confirmed coronavirus infections in Belgium is again above 3,000. This is evident from the data from health institute Sciensano on Thursday morning. The continuing decline in the number of new deaths has now also come to an end.

In the week from 8 to 14 March, an average of 3,052 confirmed coronavirus infections per day were added. This is an increase of 29 percent compared to the week before.

As many as 10 percent more corona tests were administered. The positivity ratio increased slightly to 6.8 percent (+0.7 percent).

Hospital admissions are also still increasing sharply. From March 11 to March 17, the daily average was more than 175 admissions, 16 percent more than in the previous seven days. Currently, 2,121 corona patients are being cared for in the hospital. 534 of them are in intensive care units.

While the number of new deaths from Covid-19 had continued to decline so far, it is now stagnating. From 8 to 14 March it was an average of 24.6 per day, the same as in the previous week.

In Belgium, 818,142 infections with the corona virus have already been confirmed since the start of the pandemic. In total, 22,600 people died from Covid-19.

At present, 832,140 people in our country have already been vaccinated with the first dose. That is 9 percent of the adult population. Some 400,980 of them, or 4.4 percent of the adult population, have already received a second shot.
