‘OMT members threatened and visited at home’ | Inland

Nu.nl writes this on the basis of conversations with a number of OMT members. Diederik Gommers, who on Friday morning does not want to say much more than that the message is correct, says Nu.nl about serious threats via social media. Sometimes OMT members are also visited at home. According to him, “a single OMT member” is protected. Gommers does not want to say whether it concerns permanent security.

Virologist Marion Koopmans says that she receives threats online and has also received threatening letters at home. One of the online messages contains an image of a noose with the texts ‘it’s waiting’ and ‘just yet’. The threats are reason for Koopmans to go to work by car and not by train.

The threats would regularly increase after a television appearance or an interview in the newspaper. Koopmans is even considering stopping media appearances. “It’s an option. But if everyone stops with a reasonable story, that’s not good either. ”

Not all OMT members who spoke to NU.nl say they feel intimidated by the threats. For example, OMT member Andreas Voss says that he has received letters in which he was called ‘terrible monkey’, among other things. Voss says he does not feel threatened. “Go back to the Germans,” said another letter. The letters that Voss received were not delivered by post, but delivered personally to his home letterbox.

Several OMT members work at RIVM. RIVM does not want to comment on the question whether the threatened members are protected.
