Jakarta

The Indonesian Ministry of Health has again noted the addition of cases of the Omicron variant in Indonesia. As of Friday (14/1), there were 66 new cases added, bringing the total confirmed Omicron cases to 572.

Of the 66 new Omicron confirmed cases, 33 of them are international or overseas travelers (PPLN). While the other 33 cases were local transmissions.

Spokesperson for the COVID-19 vaccination of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said that there were no differences in symptom characteristics between PPLN patients and local transmission patients. Symptoms that appear are mild, such as cough, runny nose, fever, and some are asymptomatic.

“Almost half or about 276 people have finished undergoing isolation, while the remaining 296 people are still in isolation. From the results of monitoring in the field, the majority of symptoms are mild and asymptomatic. So they don’t need serious treatment,” said Dr. Nadia in an official statement, Friday (14/14). /1/2022).

Dr. Nadia also revealed that the addition of Omicron cases in recent times had implications for the spike in daily national cases. In fact, currently the proportion of the Omicron variant is much higher than the Delta variant.

“From the results of monitoring carried out by the Ministry of Health, probable cases of Omicron have started to rise since the beginning of 2022. Most of those who travel abroad, this also has an impact on the increase in daily cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia,” he said.

As a follow-up effort, all patients are required to undergo a health quarantine. Around 339 people are quarantined at the Wisma Athlete Hospital, while the rest are quarantined in hospitals that have been determined by the COVID-19 Handling Task Force.

In the future, the Ministry of Health will increase the implementation of 3T (Testing, Tracing and Treatment). Regarding treatment, the Ministry of Health guarantees the availability of a centralized isolation room and self-isolation for mild and asymptomatic cases. Meanwhile, for moderate and severe symptoms, a hospital with adequate bed capacity has been prepared.
