Omicron Getting Closer to Indonesia, Found 2 Cases in Singapore

Jakarta, CNBC IndonesiaThe Singapore Ministry of Health on Thursday (2/12/2021) reported the discovery of two cases of the Omicron Variant of Covid-19 in the country. The case was imported from South Africa.

quote Straits Times, the two cases arrived from Johannesburg on a Singapore Airlines flight on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. Even so, the ministry admitted that the two patients had not interacted with the public and were still in strict quarantine.

“Both cases are currently recovering in isolation wards at the National Center for Infectious Diseases. They have been fully vaccinated, and have mild symptoms of cough and itchy throat,” the ministry said.

Previously, the Omicron Varian case was experienced by passengers transiting at Singapore Changi Airport. The infected passenger was en route from Johannesburg to Sydney, Australia. The case was only known after the Australian authorities carried out testing.

The new variant of the Omicron corona virus, which was first reported by a country in South Africa, has become a new concern for the world because it occurs in the epicenter of the spike in Covid-19 infections. In fact, it was also reported an increase in hospital occupancy rates in several areas infected with this variant.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has also officially included omicron as variant of concern or VOC (worrying variant). Omicron is reported to have more strains or mutations than the Alpha, Beta and Delta variants and is considered highly infectious.
