oman job vacancy latest new: Petrol pump manager in Oman, opticals sales jobs are no longer foreign to expatriates – ministry of labor of oman says further indigenization will take place soon

Foreigners’ work permits will not be renewed

Expatriate employees currently working in these sectors can continue to work until the current work permit expires. They will not be renewed after the expiry of the work permit. Instead, Omani nationals will be assigned to these posts. The minister also said that licenses for petrol stations and optical shops to recruit foreigners for these jobs would be revoked at the expiration date.

Thousands of expatriates will lose their jobs

It is estimated that expatriates in Oman will lose thousands of jobs as these two areas become more indigenous. Thousands of expatriates are currently working in 655 fuel stations across the country in managerial and allied positions. Those with a degree or higher diploma in business administration from Oman will be considered for these jobs. Thousands of expatriates also work in the spectacles shop. They can continue in these jobs only till the expiry of their current work permit.

Indigenization will come in more areas

According to the Ministry of Labor, repatriation is planned for various new jobs, including in the private sector. Currently, jobs in various fields, including information technology, finance, marketing & sales, administration, insurance, media and courts, have been made exclusively for natives. Oman has previously decided to allow foreigners to recruit foreign workers, even in construction and housekeeping jobs. Indigenization in the government sector in Oman has reached almost 100 percent. Indigenization in Oman began in 1988.
