Australian actress and singer Oliva Newton-John succumbed to cancer at the age of 73. Not only was Olivia famous for her legendary portrayal of Sandy in the 1978 musical film Pomade, she was also a very successful singer who sold over 100 million albums in her lifetime, was nominated for a Grammy Award 12 times and won the award four times.

It’s unbelievable, but Olivia Newton-John she has been fighting the insidious disease since 1992, when she first announced that she had it breast cancer. However, after successful treatment, she relapsed twice, in 2013 and 2017. However, the singer never gave up and all the time she tried to bring awareness about this disease, she even founded an oncology center in Australia and tried to advocate for the legalization of medical marijuana purposes.
The sad news of the singer’s death was announced by her husband John Easterling: “Dame Olivia Newton-John died quietly this morning at a ranch in Southern California, passing away surrounded by family and friends.”
A touching message on Instagram also sent Olivia to heaven by her film colleague and longtime friend John Travolta, whose wife succumbed to the same type of cancer as Olivia in 2020.

The death does not choose
Neither money nor fame can protect you from cancer, which is proven not only by the sad story of Olivia, but also by others from the world of show business who have struggled or are struggling with the insidious disease. Nine years after the phenomenal Pomade, a film about the summer love between a girl from a better family and a rebellious dancer was released. Sinful Dance also became a hit, turning the main actors into stars almost overnight. And in this case too, one of the couple got cancer. In 2009, actor and dancer Patrick Swayze died of pancreatic cancer. He was 57 years old.

As we already wrote above, in 2020 John Travolta’s wife died of the same type of cancer as Olivia. But actress Helen McCrory, who you may remember as Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, also succumbed to the same diagnosis. The fragile actress was 52 years old.

The Australian singer Kylie Minogue won over breast cancer, as well as the famous actress from the series Sex and the City, Cynthia Nixon, or the singer Anastacia. She even underwent a bilateral masectomy (breast removal). The actress from the sitcom Married with Obligations, Christina Applegate, also decided to have a similar procedure.
Most celebrities who have gone through various forms of the disease are trying to raise awareness and contribute to cancer treatment around the world.
