Olga Commandeur serves new target groups with live streams and vlogs | NOW

The Netherlands in motion is more relevant today than ever: regular viewers can participate in sports three to four times a day, but Olga Commandeur also taps into a younger target group with live streams via Facebook. The presenter tells in conversation with NU.nl that you can “make it as heavy as you want”.

In addition to the new live broadcast which will be released on Thursday at 6.15 pm, Commandeur has also recently made self videos in which she highlights fragments from old episodes, in order to focus on a certain muscle group, for example.

“I act as a kind of personal coach,” explains the former athlete. “With some extra accents you can make old exercises just a bit more intensive. Longer strokes, heavier weights, dribbling instead of steps: young people are also discovering it now.”

You don’t need to bring special supplies into your home, Commandeur explains. “Be creative. If you can easily grab something in your hands, you can actually use it as weight. With some heavy clothes in a buttoned bag, you can train your biceps very well, for example.”

Vacuuming and cleaning windows in a wide position, balancing on one leg while you cook, looking away from your computer screen to train the eye muscles: Commander can think of countless exercises.

‘Nice to serve people at their beck and call’

“The demand for movement is now becoming much more specific,” says the sports expert. “I never really went with that vlogging time, but I notice that those videos are now catching on. Of course we have always had a certain target group, but there are also people who want it a bit spicier. Or older people who are looking for a slower pace. “

Commander therefore sees herself continuing her video coaching even after the corona crisis. “Nice to be able to serve people in their own way. I’m not the only one by the way: Arie Boomsma, Fitchannel, there are plenty of other programs to be found. Very cool that there are so many initiatives. So everyone can choose what suits them best. “

The coronavirus in short

  • The coronavirus mainly spreads from person to person via sneezing and cough drops. The chance of becoming infected through surfaces such as door handles is small. This chance decreases if you wash your hands often.
  • You can considerably reduce the chance of spreading by keeping at least 1.5 meters away from others.
  • The corona measures have resulted in an infected person infecting less than one other person on average. Previously, this so-called reproduction number was between two and three.
  • The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
  • Almost all deaths involve the elderly or other vulnerable persons, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
