Phishing or attempts to obtain someone’s data by deceiving potential victims are still ongoing today. Not long ago there were two bank namely BRI and BCA which are often used as tools for phishing this.

For example, it was announced that these two banks would impose administrative fees or ATM withdrawal fees on a monthly basis. In fact, administration fees or withdrawal fees at other ATMs are charged per transaction.

One of the senior officials of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), or the member of the Board of Commissioners for Consumer Education and Protection of the OJK, Friderica Widyasari, revealed that she also received the announcement via a short WhatsApp message.

“Once I got WhatsApp, he said he got a reduction in transaction administration fees. I saw that the logo was very similar (to the bank logo). But it’s definitely fake,” he said in a press conference on Friday ( 7/10/2022).

Earlier, BCA Hera Executive Vice President F Haryn said that in connection with the announcement of the renewal of BCA’s mobile and internet banking fees, BCA had never issued such a letter.

“We can say that the announcement was an act of fraud. BCA has never made such an announcement,” he said when contacted.

He revealed that BCA always urges loyal customers to always beware of people acting on BCA’s behalf.

BIS Corporate Secretary Aestika Oryza Gunarto revealed that the announcement was confirmed as fake. “Regarding the circulation of information on behalf of the BIS, we communicate that the BIS only uses official verified websites and official social media channels or blue check marks as a means of communication that the public can access,” she said.

Aestika urges customers to pay more attention and not to disclose the confidentiality of personal and banking data (account number, card number, PIN, user and internet banking password, OTP to other people, including those on behalf of BRI, via links, websites or short messages from unofficial sources that cannot be justified.

“BIS urges all clients to be aware of all forms of fraud and banking crimes committed by irresponsible parties,” he said.
