Ohio state Unveils Enhanced Gameday Experience, Driven by Fan Connection & Tradition
COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio State Athletics today announced a thorough overhaul of the gameday experience at Ohio Stadium, aiming to amplify fan engagement, celebrate Buckeye heritage, and create an atmosphere that directly fuels the team’s performance. The changes, effective for the 2024 season, encompass everything from a new gameday anthem to a revitalized student section and a more dynamic videoboard presentation.
Beyond the immediate excitement of the upcoming season, these changes represent a strategic investment in the long-term culture of Ohio State football, solidifying the ‘Shoe as one of the nation’s most iconic and intimidating venues.
A Soundtrack for Buckeye Pride: Caamp’s “Ohio” Takes Center Stage
The heart of the new gameday atmosphere will be “Ohio,” a song by Columbus-based band caamp. The track will be featured prominently during the first half of each game, accompanied by a visual tribute showcasing the people and places that define the state. This initiative, spearheaded by Associate Athletic Director for Fan Experience,Jamie Holm, aims to foster a deeper sense of connection and gratitude among fans.”We wanted something that truly felt like ohio State,” explained Holm.”Caamp’s music embodies the spirit of our state and our fans, and we believe ‘Ohio’ will become synonymous with Buckeye gamedays.”
Beyond the anthem, the music selection throughout the game will be more reactive, responding to the energy on the field and in the stands. Game day DJ, DJ 2Dope will be instrumental in curating this dynamic soundtrack.
Block O: Amplifying the Student Voice
The legendary Block O student section is undergoing a significant transformation. Block O North has been consolidated with Block O South, creating a unified and larger student presence. This move, championed by the Ohio State Student Government, is expected to substantially increase the volume and coordination of student support.
Leading this charge is Block O President, ethan Brown, who is spearheading the “Defend the ‘Shoe” rallying cry. This student-led initiative aims to disrupt opposing teams through increased noise and strategic timing, potentially impacting snap counts and forcing timeouts. Brown emphasized the goal is to “make the ‘Shoe an even more challenging environment for our opponents, and to show the team we’re with them every step of the way.”
Videoboard Evolution: Immersive & Real-Time
The videoboard experience will be significantly enhanced, prioritizing real-time stats, scores, and replays presented in a distinctly Ohio state style.Building on the success of full-board takeovers seen during the 2023 CFP game against Tennessee, these immersive displays will be utilized more frequently during key moments – critical downs, player introductions, and touchdown celebrations. The videoboard team, led by Director of Game Production, Kevin brown, is also exploring augmented reality elements to further engage fans.Meaningful Moments & New Traditions
Ohio State is streamlining in-stadium presentations, focusing on quality over quantity. The iconic north Band Ramp, designed by renowned architect Peter Eisenman, will serve as the stage for these impactful moments. A new “Buckeye Leaf Platform” will recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the university and athletic program.
