CNN reports that the ship was on its way to the Hubbard Glacier in Alaska when it encountered part of an iceberg, also known as a “growler”.
The ship was damaged in the front on the right side, but was considered safe enough to sail calmly back to Seattle where the ship had to be repaired.
American Benjamin Tallbott was on board the ship when the collision occurred.
He filmed the clash and the video has been shared many times on social media and has now received over 30 million views – see video here:
In the video, we hear Tallbott say “Oh my God! Titanic 2.0 ».
Tallbott tells VG that at first he only heard a loud bang, as if someone had slammed a door shut. He says it felt like a hard pressure on the shoulder.
– When I started filming, I was in shock about the size of the iceberg when it turned around. It was the size of two buses! he says to VG.
Furthermore, he adds that the staff on the ship were very reassuring and made the whole experience better.
To AP he says that after the collision, several of the guests on the ship decided to set up a party to lift the mood.
According to the US Coast Guard, no one was injured after the encounter with the iceberg.
