Ogre Theater invites to open-air ‘Tailors’ Day in Silmači’ during Midsummer Week

As the restrictions of the pandemic diminish, Ogre Theater invites the audience to open-air performances of “Skroderdienas Silmači” in three Latvian cities – Ikšķile, Balvi and Mengele.

Rūdolfs Blaumanis ‘”Skroderdienas Silmači” is a phenomenon of Latvian theater – a play that Latvians like to watch and watch every Midsummer, laughs to tears and sings with Blaumanis’ heartfelt couples. The stage version of “Tailors in Silmači” created by director Jānis Kaijak premiered in 2010 and has become one of the most sought-after productions of Blaumanis’ play, which is performed on various Latvian open-air stages every year during Midsummer. So far, the show has taken place in such places as Liepāja, Cesvaine, Rēzekne, Ventspils, Līvāni, Madliena, Suntaži, Lubāna, Taurupe, Jumprava, Višķi, etc.

Performances in the creative team: costume designer Ilze Kupča-Ziemele and set designer Māris Ruskulis. Starring: Antonija – Astra Kolberga, Dūdars – Guntars Arājs, Ieviņa – Katrīna Anna Ozoliņa, Kārlēns – Mārcis Broks, etc. This year a new cast will make its debut in in the role of Herbert Legants, in the role of Bebene – Sarmīte Krauze.

The performances of “Skroderdienas Silmači” will be shown on June 22 at 20:00 at Ikšķile stage, June 23 at 19:00 at the Prize City Stage and on June 27 at 17:00 on the stage of the Angel. Admission to all performances – free of charge.

Event organizers take into account the epidemiological safety rules developed by the government. It is possible to attend the performance at Ikšķile stage by presenting an identity document and a digital Covid-19 certificate, which confirms that the spectator has been vaccinated against Covid-19 or has contracted Covid-19 during the last six months. Performances at the Balvi City Stage and the Mengele Stage will also be possible by presenting a negative Covid-19 test performed during the last 48 hours or a negative Covid-19 rapid antigen test performed during the last 6 hours. Admission to the events is free for children under 12 years of age.
