The Italian championship, a loss in the Coppa Italia final and being eliminated from Lyon in the 1/8 finals of the Champions League – this is the balance sheet of Maurizio Sarri at Juventus. The balance is poor for the ambitions of Turinians. Scudetto has become an obligation. The real goal was to win the coveted Champions League that the club has been waiting for since 1996.
Sarri checked in with Juventus ahead of the 2019/20 season, replacing Massimiliano Allegri and previously working for Chelsea and Napoli. He went to Turin for Juventus to start playing nice football in addition to winning, but not to ensure neither. The fans of the Old Lady are unlikely to miss him.
Sportitalia Television identifies a potential successor to Sarri. He is the finalist of last season’s LM, former Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine previously also trained Southampton and Espanyol. It is speculated that Simone Inzaghi, who is currently working at Lazio, may also be coached by Juve. Andrea Agnelli, the club’s president, does not hide his sympathy for Pep Guardiolia. Zinedine Zidane has also been linked to Juventus in the past, but the latter two names are rather unlikely. The more that the new season starts on September 19.
