The Armenian star will complete the Serie A campaign this season before spending another year with the Italian team.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan will complete this season at AS Roma. In addition, Roma also announced that it had reached an initial agreement with Arsenal to make the midfielder continue his career at the Stadio Olimpico for the 2020/21 season.
The Armenian international moved to Rome on a season-long loan from Arsenal in September, with he making 19 appearances and scoring six goals for the Serie A club so far.
Regarding his decision to stay, Mkhitaryan said: “I am very happy,” he said in a statement.
“I am happy to extend my stay here, because I still have things that I have not yet achieved. I’m looking forward to realizing that. “

Meanwhile, Roma CEO Guido Fienga added: “We are happy Henrikh has decided to stay with us, and helps us to continue to grow.
“The club’s target has not changed and we always want to have players at our club, like Micki, who show his desire, professionalism and determination in representing our club and fans in the right way.
“I hope Micki stays in Rome for a long time – and I also want to congratulate him on the birth of his son here.”
Mkhitaryan initially joined Arsenal from Manchester United in 2017 as a barter involving Alexis Sanchez.
He initially joined United from Borussia Dortmund, where he emerged as a star after scoring 41 goals in 140 appearances for three seasons with the German giants.
He then moved to Old Trafford in 2016, became the first Armenian player to play in the Premier League, and scored 13 goals in 63 matches before moving to Arsenal.
However, the midfielder struggled to make a good impression at the Emirates Stadium, with he only playing 58 matches and scoring nine goals during his time in London.

Mkhitaryan himself has become a regular player for Roma, while the 31-year-old is believed to be a starter in two club matches since Serie A restarted after being suspended due to the corona virus pandemic.
Roma now ranks fifth in Serie A, nine points behind fourth-placed Atalanta and three points ahead of Napoli in sixth.
Mkhitaryan and Roma will face Udinese on Thursday before visiting Napoli next Sunday.
