Giovanni Simeone is a new player of Hellas Verona. This was announced by the Scaligero club with the following statement: “Hellas Verona FC announces that it has acquired from Cagliari Calcio – on a temporary basis, with the right of option for the definitive acquisition – the sports performances of the footballer Giovanni Simeone, 26-year-old Argentine striker with Spanish citizenship who chose 99 as their jersey number.
Born in Madrid on 5 July 1995, he grew up in the youth sector of River Plate, a club that allowed him to make his debut in the Primera División, during the 2014/15 season, and then play the following year – again in the Argentine top flight – under Banfield, with whom he scored 12 goals.
He left Argentine football after winning a national title, a Copa Sudamericana, a Copa Libertadores and a Recopa Sudamericana, all trophies he won with River Plate between 2014 and 2015.
Moving to Italy in the 2016/17 season, he scored 12 goals in 35 appearances with Genoa in his first Serie A championship.
From 2017 to 2019 he played in the Italian top league under Fiorentina, with which he totaled 80 appearances, 22 goals and 8 assist-goals.
He has played the last two seasons, always in Serie A, with the Cagliari shirt, with a personal and overall score of 72 appearances, 18 goals and 6 assist-goals.
With the Argentina national team he has played 5 games so far, scoring on his debut in the friendly match against Guatemala, held in September 2018. Three, however, the matches in which he took the field with the Albiceleste Olympic Selection at the 2016 Rio Games.
With the Argentina Under 20 national team, with which he totaled 13 appearances and signed 11 goals, he became South American Champion in 2015.
