Officer fires shot at car that wanted to run into him in Rotterdam | NOW

An agent fired a shot on Monday at a car that wanted to drive into him on the Soetendaalseweg in Rotterdam-Noord. The occupants were arrested.

There were no injuries, a spokesperson for the Rotterdam police told NU.nl. The cop is also doing well. The suspects, a man and a woman with an unknown identity, will be interrogated by the police on Monday.

The police wanted to address a group in Hoeksestraat just before 7 p.m. on Monday for gathering, which three or more people are not allowed to prevent further spread of the corona virus.

An agent recognized one of the group members, because he had also been warned about gathering earlier Monday. When the suspect realized that, he ran away on foot.

The officers gave chase and saw the man get into a car on the Soetendaalseweg. An officer stood in front of the vehicle to proceed to an arrest, but the driver, unimpressed, stepped on the accelerator.

The officer felt so threatened that he grabbed his firearm and fired a shot at the car. The vehicle hit the knees of the police officer at low speed, after which the man and woman could be arrested.
