Offenbach: Ex-shopping center is demolished – “the two ugliest buildings in Offenbach”

“We have the two ugliest buildings Offenbach bought and want to make something great out of it, ”says Dietrich. He also acquired the building opposite the “City Center” and is converting it. However, there is no demolition, the building is extended and given a new facade.

The actual demolition will begin immediately after Pentecost, announced Rudolph. The gutting work has been underway inside since the end of April. Bags of rubble are piled up on the ground floor. “Fortunately, problematic material like asbestos was hardly used at the time,” says Dietrich. Most of the demolition work will be carried out from Ziegelstrasse, with only a few working from Berliner Strasse.

Offenbach: Former shopping center will be demolished – western part will disappear by September

The western part of the building will disappear by September – The eastern part, however, from the Großer Biergrund up to the level of the ramp for the parking garage remains. “This part will be extensively renovated, the driveways for the parking garage will of course be revised,” says Dietrich.

By the end of the year, this part should be completely renovated and offer space for retail on an area of almost 18,000 square meters on the ground floor, and the parking garage for 365 cars and over 600 bicycles on the upper floors. A daycare center will be housed on the roof as before. “It will increase from two to four groups,” he says.

Offenbach: What should happen after the demolition of the former shopping center

Starting next year, the residential and commercial building with almost 8,000 square meters of usable space and 60 apartments will be built in the east, directly on Schlossstrasse up to the Sandgasse junction.

Another, significantly higher structure, the so-called high point, is planned between the two buildings. However, there is still no decision to set this up. Dietrich hopes that city councilors will be able to advise on this later this year and that the “high point” will be built from 2022. A passage that connects the Sandgasse with the Berlin street connects and at the same time prevents the new building a closed front is planned.

Schwenke and Weiß used that Start of demolition also for a short walk through the building with Dietrich and Rudolph. “The Bieberhaus was over after a short time,” reports Dietrich from the first anchor tenant. “When Massa opened here in 1982, you had a choice of dozen types of butter – that was unusual at the time,” recalls Weiß. But no one wants to be sad, everyone can see the joy at the demolition of the building sin.
