ÖFB star Alaba calls for cohesion

In the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, ÖFB star David Alaba emphasized the importance of joint action by everyone. “Everyone in our society can and must contribute to curbing the corona virus and combating the spread,” the defense lawyer from Bayern Munich said in an interview with “GQ Gentlemen’s Quarterly”.

“We are professional players, so football is extremely important to us. But there are more important things in life, for example the health of us and our fellow human beings, ”emphasized Alaba. “The current phase is not about whether we will win our next game, but whether our society will win the fight against the corona virus. If even a training or game that doesn’t take place helps, we are all fully committed to these decisions, ”said the 27-year-old from Vienna.

Father role shifts priorities

Alaba also talked about what it means to him to be a father after his son saw the light of day on December 3rd of the previous year: it triggered something in me. It’s a completely new experience, and I’m really grateful for that. […] Of course I want to pass on my values and my experiences: gratitude, ambition, will – and the ability to think big, never give up, I want to pass that on. ”

As for his post-career period, Alaba has no concrete plans yet. “Difficult to say, I know how fast-paced football is and it has been my life so far. But I can imagine going away for a year or two, for example living in the USA and getting to know the culture there. Or I’m in Austria, in Vienna, my home. Or also in Munich. We’ll see.”
