Manama, Bahrain – A new era for mixed martial arts (MMA) in Asia began this week with the launch of the first-ever Olympic Council of Asia (OCA)-Asia Mixed Martial Arts Association (AMMA) referees and coaches development program. The three-day initiative, currently underway in Bahrain, brings together 107 officials – coaches and referees - representing 30 Asian national Olympic Committees.
The program, a collaborative effort between the OCA and AMMA, is designed to elevate the standards of MMA throughout Asia. It focuses on education, promoting equality within the sport, and fostering ethical leadership among its practitioners. This commitment to development comes at a crucial time as MMA prepares for its debut on the continental stage.
The program commenced on Monday and is scheduled to conclude today. Participants are undergoing intensive training designed to standardize officiating and coaching methodologies, ensuring fair and safe competition across the region.
MMA’s inclusion in the upcoming 3rd Asian Youth Games (AYG) 2025 in Bahrain this October marks a notable milestone.Further solidifying its position, MMA will also feature prominently at the 20th Asian Games in aichi and Nagoya, Japan, next year. This inclusion provides a platform for Asian athletes to compete at a major international level.
