jpnn.com, JAKARTA – The group of pregnant women is not included in the Covid-19 vaccine clinical trial group. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that vaccination can be considered for giving to pregnant and lactating women who are at high risk of contracting Covid-19 such as health workers, and have other health conditions that can worsen if infected.

However, according to Siloam Hospitals Balikpapan, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, I Wayan Sumo Yoga, there are special conditions for administering the vaccine.

“However, the decision (vaccination) is individual and should be discussed with the treating health worker,” Doctor Yoga said in a recent health webinar.

In addition, he continued, the recommendation of the Indonesian obstetrics and gynecology association (POGI) also states that pregnant women have not been recommended to be vaccinated against Covid-19. Plus there has been no expert research involving pregnant women to receive the covid-19 vaccine.

“There is no scientific evidence yet,” he added.

Meanwhile, regarding breastfeeding mothers, said Doctor Yoga, there is no data yet that the Covid-19 vaccine is released through breast milk (ASI).

However, considerations of the benefits of breastfeeding must be put forward in line with the clinical needs of these breastfeeding mothers to get the Covid-19 vaccination.

So how to protect pregnant and lactating women who are among the vulnerable population? According to him, the best way is to comply with health protocols, and the husband and adult family members at home are immediately vaccinated.
