For 11 months of 2020, 918 new cases of HIV-infected were registered in the Tomsk region. 79 people died from the infection. Both values ​​have decreased compared to 2019, according to the regional health department.

In January-November last year, the number of new HIV infections decreased by 210 – from 1,128 cases in 2019 to 918 cases in 2020.

“Over 11 months of last year, 79 people died of HIV infection, for the same period in 2019 – 144 people,” the regional health department said in response to a request from vtomske.ru.

Formerly Tomskstat reported growth deaths of HIV-infected in 2019 compared to 2018.

The department added that in 2021 the Tomsk region will receive antiretroviral drugs “in larger quantities than in previous years”, as well as “in sufficient quantities for all HIV-infected citizens in need.” The regional health department does not specify how much the region will receive the drugs.

In August, it was reported that 6,400 people were receiving antiretroviral therapy.

In early December, the regional center “AntiAIDS” toldthat more than 8.6 thousand HIV-infected are under observation in the region. The head physician of the center, Alexander Chernov, noted that the sexual route (70.2%), the injection route (28.6%) and the vertical route from mother to child (1.2%) dominate in the structure of established routes of HIV transmission in Tomsk Oblast.
