When they slept about it one night, the result was no different, but the realization was pretty clear and consistent: the current squad of KFC Uerdingen will not be enough to occupy a place in the top four in the football Oberliga, let alone that Celebrating promotion back to the regional league. The 0:6 (0:2) defeat against the regional league club Preußen Münster showed in a relentless way what is missing.

The KFC withstood the pressure from the Prussians for half an hour at the inauguration of the new sports campus in Südlohn, only to concede the second goal seconds before the break. After the change, it wasn’t a class difference, but much more. After an hour, the Prussians were outnumbered because a substitution had been made at the break and Lukas Frenkert was injured. But that didn’t change anything about the superiority of the favorite.

“I didn’t expect that we would beat Munster 5-0 either. They are in a better position than last season,” said KFC coach Alexander Voigt. “And we’re not complete yet. Of course we’re not on the same level. It was just important for us to move into competitive mode. We did. We ran a lot, ran after. That’s why it was an important game.”

The coach made no secret of his knowledge of this first test game: “The game showed that we are not finished with squad planning.” However, he was already aware of the deficits. “We know that we still have to bring experienced players on the flanks and in the center forward position or in central defence. Of course you could see that very well against Prussia.” The game featured a U19 player and a test player on the left flank. “The boys aren’t up to par yet, that’s for sure. That’s why we definitely have to do something more.” Three or four more players should be added. “But no supplementary players, but experienced players.”

Team manager Heiner Essingholt sees it the same way. However, he does not want to be put under pressure. “It’s still early,” he says. “We have to be patient now.” After all, everything has to fit: the player in the requirement profile, but also the financial side. In addition, the newcomers must also fit into the salary structure. “And we will not do anything that is economically unreasonable. That was the case often enough in the past, we should have learned from that.”

Pascale Talarski is sure that one or the other player will be added. So he’s not worried just yet. “We’ll have a good team,” he says. And compared to co-relegated VfB Homberg, the work at KFC is much more professional. “I think that will pay off as well.”
–
The team will be training twice a day in the coming week, in the morning and in the afternoon. “We will intensify the workload in order to get into the area where the boys will be in the red in two weeks at the latest,” explains Voigt. “We will work a lot on fitness and teamwork.”
