Obama criticizes Trump’s approach to the corona crisis: “Chaotic disaster” | NOW

Friday evening (local time), Barack Obama criticized President Donald Trump’s crisis approach in a conference call with former government employees. Former US President called Trump’s fight against coronavirus a “completely chaotic disaster,” several US media reported after reporting Yahoo News.

The thirty-minute telephone conversation with three thousand members of the Obama Alumni Association has come into the hands of Yahoo News. Obama said during the conversation that Trump’s response to the coronavirus shows that strong leadership is needed during such a global crisis. Former employees have confirmed the content of the conversation to CNN.

Obama called on alumni to support Joe Biden in the upcoming presidential elections. “The elections that are coming are important not only because we are fighting a particular individual or a political party, but because we are fighting a trend of selfishness, division, group interest and hostility that is getting stronger in American society,” said the old president. Partly because of this trend, Obama’s response to this crisis was so “listless and flawed”.

Obama went on to say that the coronavirus would have struck the best governments, too, but Trump’s approach to “going to hell with others” and selfishness has turned it into a chaotic disaster.

An Obama spokesman declined to comment on the news. A White House spokesman said in a statement on Saturday CNN that Trump’s approach is unprecedented and has saved American lives.

The corona virus has already killed nearly 80,000 people in the US. More than 1.3 million Americans have been infected.
