The 46th annual Macy’s fireworks show returns this Monday, July 4, with more than 48,000 rockets and effects set off from five barges located between 23rd and 42nd streets on Manhattan’s East River.

Due to this, the New York City Police Department announced the closure of several streets for Independence Day from 2:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
The department reminds viewers that large backpacks, large coolers, lawn chairs, lawn blankets, umbrellas, or alcoholic beverages will not be allowed in viewing areas. All restricted items are subject to search and seizure.
If you are planning on driving through NYC on the Fourth of July, be aware there will be various street closures along both sides of the East River.

- Williamsburg Bridge – Approximately 7:00 pm There is no pedestrian or bicycle traffic.
- Edward I. Koch Bridge – Approximately 7:00 pm No pedestrian or bicycle traffic.

The public viewing sections in Manhattan will be the elevated portions of the FDR ride with the following entry points:
Note: Access blocks will close as viewing areas fill up and viewers will be redirected to additional open access blocks as appropriate.
City center:
• Calle 23

Manhattan ADA
• ADA – Southbound FDR lane at 18th St. and Avenue C (via 20th St. and 23rd St).
Brooklyn
• Transmitter Park: access point on Greenpoint Avenue to Dead End
• Newton Barge Playground – access point at 3 Commercial Street
• Marsha P. Johnson State Park (East River State Park) – access point at Kent Avenue and North 11th Street
Note: this year, due to the placement of barges, Brooklyn Bridge Park is not a viewing location for fireworks.
