NYPD Assigns More Officers to Patrol Morningside Park

The New York Police Department assigns more officers to patrol the streets near Morningside Park in Upper Manhattan after the fatal stabbing of a college student.

The attack occurred on Thursday, around 11 p.m., between 123rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Officers say they found Davide Giri, a doctoral student at Columbia University, with a wound to his stomach.

The NYPD has already arrested Vicent Pinkey in Manhattan for the student’s murder and linked to another stabbing.

University authorities have identified the victim as Roberto Malaspina, another student who came from Italy to spend several months in an independent investigation.

The two incidents occurred within minutes of each other and investigators report that they were apparently unprovoked.

Pinkey faces multiple charges including murder and attempted murder.
