NYPD announces security plan to protect citizens in elections – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – Elections are just around the corner and the New York City Police (NYPD) announced a plan Tuesday to provide security for New Yorkers during these dates.

“We consider voting as a civil right of each person. The NYPD is going to make sure every New Yorker is safe during voting, ”said Department Head Terence A. Monahan during Tuesday’s press conference.

Monahan also clarified that so far there is no threat to the city and that they do not expect there to be one. However, the Police are prepared to protect the right to vote of citizens, and assured that security planning took time where they carried out various activities including training for the uniformed.

For this, there will be members of the NYPD in all 1,201 voting centers of the five counties, 708 of those centers are in public schools, during the day of the elections. In addition, they will also have uniforms in the 88 city centers assigned for early voting that begins on Saturday.

They will also have staff at three new locations: Barclays Center, Lincoln Center and Madison Square Garden.

“It is no secret that these elections are more contentious than those of previous years, and therefore our plan also includes reacting immediately to any incident that occurs,” Monahan said.

Because of this, from Monday, October 26, they will have hundreds of additional uniformed police officers across the city to stand ready should they ever be needed. Each of those officers will give a brief daily report with any information that may affect the polling places.

“For 175 years the safety of New Yorkers has been sought during any major event, and that will not change in the next two weeks, near the elections, or after them,” he concluded.
