Nine nuns have died of coronavirus-related causes at a convent in upstate New York in just over a month, county officials reported Thursday.
Albany County is aware of the deaths among the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in Latham, said local government spokeswoman Mary Rozak in a statement emailed to the Times Union on behalf of the county health commissioner. , Elizabeth Whalen.
“Four of the deaths associated with the congregation had been reported earlier earlier this month by hospitals,” Whalen said in the statement. “The other five were not reported by the facility to the Albany County Health Department.”
The convent is home to 140 nuns, according to its website.
