Nutritionist warned of the threat of an excess of vitamin D

Sunlight promotes the production of vitamin D. It regulates the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body, and a lack of it causes fatigue, bone pain, rickets in children, weakness and even depression. To avoid this, people make up for the lack of sun in autumn and winter with products containing this vitamin, or special supplements. Hence the reasonable question: what happens if you take too much vitamin D?

If a person consumes fatty fish, red meat, mushrooms, eggs and other foods that contain vitamin D, then there can be no question of any “overdose”, nutritionist Elizabeth Stewart said in an interview with Express. She noted that the content of this element in these products is not enough to cause any harm to the body.

It’s very different when it comes to supplements, she said. Taking them uncontrolled can lead to a build-up of large amounts of calcium, which in turn weakens bones and also damages the kidneys and heart.

The nutritionist noted that it is necessary to take into account the recommendations for the daily intake of vitamin D for different age groups. Adults and children aged 11 to 18 years should not take more than 100 mcg of this vitamin per day. Children aged 1 to 10 years should not receive more than 50 mcg per day, and infants under 12 months of age should not receive more than 25 mcg per day.

Earlier LIVE24 reported that you can get closer to longevity if you eat right. Moreover, the diet should not consist entirely of vegetables or several products. An excellent example of diversity is the melon – the main competitor of the watermelon. Experts say it contains essential nutrients and antioxidants.
