The Namibian University of Science and Technology (NUST) recently established a digital meeting point or so-called youth café in the informal Havana branch as part of the “Reconstructed Living Lab” (RLabs Namibia) project. The RLabs project is funded by the Finnish Embassy through the so-called Local Cooperation Fund (FLC).

Officials from the Ministry of Education, Art and Culture as well as the school management of the Havana elementary school and representatives of the mobile network operator and digital business partner of the youth café, MTC, but also the management of the University of Namibia and NUST took part in the event. Representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) were also present and of course some members of the Havana youth group and other representatives from the community on the outskirts of Windhoek.

Hannele Hupanen, FLC project coordinator, inaugurated the café on behalf of the Finnish embassy in Namibia, while Dr. Möwes, the incumbent Vice Rector of the NUST, emphasized: “The youth café should be a safe place where unemployed and marginalized young people can gain further education and skills. As part of their commitment, NUST will provide training and access to technology. “
