Nurturing fresh talent proves to be a bigger challenge for the recording industry

The double, triple and quadruple diamond certifications – granted by the National Syndicate of Phonographic Publishing, SNEP, for more than 1, 1.5 or 2 million albums sold or equivalent by online listening – are the grail of the houses discs. But they are increasingly difficult to obtain.

“The last artist at the start of their career to have exceeded one million albums in France is Angèle, with an album released in 2018”, confirms Olivier Nusse, president of Universal Music Group (UMG) in France. More recently, Orelsan also experienced this privilege. But the rapper is a safe bet, which has emerged since the end of the 2000s.
