Nurseries remain open. This is how they work during an epidemic!

“What has increased in our country is hygiene. And currently, when it comes to walking, we only go to the garden for safety reasons,” says Dagmar Boháčková, an expert advisor from the Motoláček kindergarten. “We disinfect the children’s hands every time they come from outside,” describes the operation of the Modřany kindergarten, its director Pavel Havránek.

At present, there are around 5,300 kindergartens in the Czech Republic and approximately 370,000 children attend them. The education of preschool children is considered very important by the Minister of Education Robert Plaga (YES). He does not plan to close kindergartens.

The Pedagogical Chamber appealed to the Minister to have the kindergartens closed. The Councilor for Education in Prague 6, Marie Kubíková (ODS), is reportedly appealing to parents to leave their children at home. He believes this will reduce the spread of coronavirus.

“The councilor of Prague 6 wrote a letter for parents and asked those who can, for example, if they are on maternity leave and do not necessarily need to put their children in kindergarten, leave them at home.

But the interest of parents is rather the opposite. “The interest is really great. The operation of our kindergarten is in standard conditions, we are open from 6 am to 8 pm,” Boháčková revealed.

“I have a feeling that the parents are happy that they can put a child here for babysitting and they are not alone with them all day. We have 100% occupancy,” adds the director of the Modřany kindergarten.

“In the last 14 days, the attendance of the kindergarten has decreased to 50%, about 15 children per class. The opening hours of our kindergarten have not changed,” describes Jana Bednarčík, the head teacher of the Písek kindergarten, about another experience.

Teachers claim that it is safe in kindergartens and they know how to proceed if a child becomes ill. “When a situation arises where a child develops symptoms during the day, he travels to the isolation room. We call the parents and they take the child home,” Berdnarčík explained the procedure.
