Number of infections almost doubled, but no second wave

Earlier figures show that the number of hospital admissions is often a week behind the infections. Intensive care admissions are back for another week.

It will therefore only become clear next week and the following week whether the increasing number of infected people will also have consequences for hospital capacity.

Testing testing testing

With the slight resurgence of the virus, a period ends in which the number of tests increased due to a broader policy, but there were fewer and fewer positive results.

Last week was the turning point. Then the percentage of positive tests remained stable for the first time compared to the previous week, at 0.6 percent. In the past week, that percentage rose to 1 percent.

In several regions it is again very busy in test streets of the GGD. Especially in Zeeland and Noord-Brabant. The aim to get a test within 24 hours after an appointment cannot be achieved there.

However, in most places there is still enough space to test. The maximum capacity of 24,000 tests per day is far from being reached. About 90,000 people took a corona test last week.

RIVM does take into account that 70,000 to 100,000 tests per day are needed in the autumn, because then many more people will have cold complaints.
