NPO wants to collaborate with streaming services Netflix and Disney + | NOW

The NPO has the ambition to create more grand quality drama. The public service broadcaster therefore wants to start an experiment that works with streaming services such as Netflix, Videoland and Disney +.

NPO chairman Shula Rijxman tells her in Thursday New Year’s speech that they want to make a maximum of five productions up to and including 2021. Media services with their own platform, such as the aforementioned services, can sign up for this.

“This collaboration offers us two important benefits: more budget for the entire Dutch creative industry and a more visible Dutch product,” says Rijxman. “At the same time, we must find our answer to all new techniques and international power concentrations that make our society vulnerable.”

The public broadcaster will search for this together with news media, experts and broadcasters, among others.

NPO wants to offer more diversity

The NPO also wants to take more steps in the field of diversity. Rijxman has announced that it will make concrete agreements with the broadcasters to achieve that.

“In terms of diversity, it is slower than I would like,” says Rijxman. That is why the NPO will conclude a covenant with the broadcasters this year to ensure more diversity. “This includes specific agreements and objectives.” The NPO has not yet specified what those agreements and objectives entail.

The public broadcaster also wants to make room for new talent and contemporary themes, such as climate change and increasing intolerance in society.
