“Now We Can Serve Patients Again …”

Medan, Beritasatu.com – Two doctors who are husband and wife, Dr. Arief Fadhillah and Dr. Fauziah, could not hold back their feelings of emotion after they were finally declared cured of Covid-19. After being treated for about a month in the hospital, followed by 14 days of independent isolation at home, the two of them can now return to care for patients who have also been exposed to the corona virus.

Dr. Arief, admitted to having a history of heart disease, hypertension and obesity. With the comorbid it has, it is not easy to recover from the virus that has eaten its way up.

“But I got through everything well. I finally got to interact with the community again. Now we can serve patients again, “said Dr. Arief, when he was met Beritasatu.com at his house in the Kelurahan Kota Matsum, Medan Kota District, North Sumatra (Sumut), Friday (23/10/2020).

Arief, who serves as a general practitioner at the Malahayati Hospital in Medan, suspects that he was exposed while on duty treating Covid-19 patients. He and his wife both served at RSU Malahayati and RSU Haji Adam Malik Medan.

At the beginning of exposure to the virus, said Arief, his body felt achy, followed by fever, cough, sore throat, and loss of taste and smell. “I might catch it while on duty. Every day the corona virus might enter my body, until finally I am positive for Covid-19,” he said.

Even though when on duty, Arief always obeyed using personal protective equipment. Corona symptoms began to be felt on July 28, 2020. On August 6, Arief also carried out a swab test and tested positive for Covid-19.

“Together with my wife, we were immediately picked up by ambulance from the Malayahati Hospital and taken to RSUP Haji Adam Malik, to undergo treatment and isolation until declared cured,” he explained.

Arief’s wife, Dr. Fauziah, said that she contracted it from her husband. Symptoms experienced. Experiencing fever, coughing, body aches and pains and abnormal sense of smell.

“We felt like people who were very depressed. However, we realized that if we were exposed to the corona virus, we should not be stressed. I tried to calm down against the disease. Keep eating nutritious food, drinking juices and vitamins,” he said.

During isolation, the food consumed every day in the hospital in the form of boiled food, fish, years, tempeh, occasionally eating meat and eggs. Meanwhile, the juices consumed are fruit juices, milk and vitamins. “Helped by prayer, finally we were declared cured,” said Fauziah.

Both claimed to be very uncomfortable being exposed to the corona virus. Therefore, both of them invite the public to really maintain a healthy lifestyle, and comply with health protocols as recommended by the government.

“The key is to use masks, wash hands with soap, maintain distance (3M) and not crowd out. If we are all disciplined in implementing this health protocol, the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic will definitely end soon,” he said.

Arief and Fauziah, are a lucky married couple of doctors. They are part of about 600 health workers (health workers) in North Sumatra who were exposed to the corona virus while carrying out their duties, and 20 of them are doctors who died from this virus.

The 20 doctors are Dr. Sutrisno, Ifan Eka Syahputra, Daud Ginting, Edwin Parlindungan Marpaung, John Edward F Sipayung, Sabar Tuah Barus and doctor Ahmad Rasyidi. Then, doctors Dennis, Ucok Martin, Irsan Nofi Hardi Nara Lubis, Anna Mari Ulina Bukit, Aldreyn Asman Aboet, Andika Kesuma Putra, Herwanto, Maya Norismal Pasaribu, M Hatta Lubis, Donni Muhammad Arifin Sinaga, Mahyono, and Tony Lumban Tobing.
