Of more than 100 patients treated at the Children’s Infectious Diseases Hospital, no one has yet required mechanical ventilation, Alexey Smolin, the chief freelance specialist on infectious diseases in children of the Ministry of Health of the Ulyanovsk Region, said in an interview published by the Ministry of Health.
“The first patient with COVID-19, who arrived from the UK, was treated at the Regional Children’s Infectious Diseases Hospital back in March, for the period from March to July we have accumulated quite a lot of experience in treating coronavirus infection in children. If our first patients arrived from other countries, now they are children and adolescents who are in contact with family members infected with COVID-19. Patients with pneumonia and a detailed clinical picture are admitted. However, in general, it can be noted that children tolerate the disease more easily than adults. According to statistics, there is a small percentage of children who require mechanical ventilation, ”the doctor said.
It is also noted that symptomatic pathogenetic therapy recommended by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation is used for treatment.
