Now it’s made a ‘Tumbal’, not Honda’s mainstay anymore

Jakarta

Honda Mobilio was forced to become a victim in the semiconductor chip crisis. Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) only sells one variant, namely SM/T. On the other hand, Honda no longer relies on the Low MPV car in the 7-passenger market.

“Never (Honda Mobilio) has been injected with death, only adjusted for production,” said Yusak Billy, Business Innovation and Sales & Marketing Director of PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) when met in Central Jakarta, Wednesday (21/4/2022).

Honda Mobilio had to succumb to the Honda Brio, which in reality was more in demand in the market.

“Because the supply of semiconductors is the same, we prioritize the production of Brio. Wait for the Mobilio, I’m sorry,” said Billy.

Billy continued, adding that currently HPM only sells one type of Honda Mobilio, namely the SM/T type. This model is maintained in production because the demand comes from the fleet or fleet.

The chip crisis is indeed hitting, but if it is resolved. Honda is still rethinking the production of another model from the Mobilio.

“When that (semiconductor chip crisis is over), we’ll see what the LMPV market looks like, so we always study,” said Billy.

Mobilio sales also continue to decline from year to year in Indonesia. Even though when it was launched in 2014, sales had skyrocketed to reach 79,288 units.

Avanza’s competitor, Xpander cs has also not undergone major changes. Since it was first launched in 2014, the second generation of Mobilio marketed in Indonesia has experienced changes to the touch of the lights and body, changes to the Honda Mobilio occurred in 2017 and 2019.

He added that for the 7 passenger car, Honda concentrated on the Low SUV segment, namely the All New BR-V. This car is said to be more in line with the character of people and the conditions of Indonesian roads.

“For 7 passengers, we concentrate on the All New Honda BR-V,” said Billy.

“Now the trend for the LSUV is that its market share is climbing steadily, now it’s 16 percent, indeed the number one LMPV is already 17 percent, but if 7 passengers see the communal character of Indonesians, they want to go together with family and friends. We choose LSUV because The ground clearance is high, the power is also capable,” said Billy.
