On Wednesday, November 11, we celebrate Independence Day. It is a holiday, so we will not shop in larger stores on this day. Only the outlets with their owners behind the counter or those not covered by the trade ban will be open. Due to the coronavirus epidemic, there are limits on people in stores, hours for seniors and masks, access to disposable gloves and disinfectants.

Pursuant to the Act on Restriction of Trade, the ban applies to Sundays and public holidays. November 11 is Independence Day – therefore, retail outlets will be closed on that day.

In 2020, there are only two exceptions to the ban – the restriction will not apply only on two consecutive Sundays before Christmas, i.e. on December 13 and 20.

Ban on trading on Sundays
The act provides for a catalog of 32 exemptions. Among the exceptions where the prohibition does not apply are, inter alia, pastry shops, ice cream parlors, liquid fuel stations, florists, newspaper shops, cafes.

Breaking the Sunday trading ban may result in a fine of PLN 1,000 to PLN 100,000. PLN, and in the case of persistent violation of the Act – the penalty of restriction of liberty.

Due to the spread of the epidemic and new restrictions – from Saturday, November 7 to November 29 this year. only grocery stores, drugstores, pharmacies and service points, such as laundries and post offices, will be opened in shopping malls.

Trade during a pandemic
Until November 29, 2020, no more than one person per 10 sq m may stay in open stores and post offices with an area of no more than 100 sq m, in stores over 100 sq m – one person per 15 sq m.

There are still hours for seniors in grocery stores, drugstores, pharmacies and post offices – from 10.00 am to noon, only people over 60 can do shopping.

Protective masks are required in all retail outlets, stores are required to provide customers with disposable gloves and hand disinfectants when shopping.
