Novaya Gazeta: rally against constitutional reform project canceled

The application for holding a rally on February 1 against amendments to the Constitution was withdrawn from the Moscow City Hall and the rally will not take place, Novaya Gazeta reports. The reasons for the withdrawal of the application and other details of the incident are not specified.

Earlier it was reported that the Department of Regional Security and Anti-Corruption of the city of Moscow authorized a rally of up to 10 thousand people on Academician Sakharov Avenue on February 1. The purpose of this event is “to speak out against the draft constitutional reform”. The rally organizers were not named. Kommersant, citing sources, reported that the organizer of the mass rally was the Libertarian Party of Russia (LPR). They did not respond to requests from the department and the decision-maker.

Municipal deputy of the Timiryazevsky district of Moscow Yulia Galyamina called for the use of a procession in memory of lawyer Stanislav Markelov and journalist Anastasia Baburova, who were killed in Moscow in 2009, as a march against changes to the Constitution of the Russian Federation.
