Not only Japan, these countries also have low legal age limits for sex

Jakarta

Japan will soon raise the legal age for sex from 13 to 16. The change was sparked by widespread criticism that the state failed to protect children from rape and sexual abuse.

The legal age in Japan is one of the lowest in the world, even when compared to other developed countries. Not only that, regulations regarding the legal age limit for sex have never been revised since 1907.

Not only in Japan, a number of other countries also have low legal age limits for sex. The following are some of them quoted from the World Population Review:

Portugal

Portugal is one of the countries with the lowest legal age of sexual intercourse in the world. Unlike most other European countries, Portugal has a legal age of 14.

German

Germany is also one of the European countries with the lowest legal age. The legal age in Germany is 14 years old. However, partners must be both under the age of 18.

If one partner is over 18 years old, that adult can be punished.

Mexico

Mexico generally has a legal age of 17. However, each region in Mexico has its own regulations regarding the legal age for sexual intercourse. For example, in Tlaxcala, which has a legal age of 14.
