Toyota Alphard and Vellfire, premium MPV cars that were not distributed in early January 2021. What’s going on?
In the wholesales data record (factory distribution to dealers) the Indonesian Association of Motor Vehicles (Gaikindo) does not show the name Toyota Alphard as of January 2022. Even the results are the same when matched with import data, there are no figures on the Toyota Alphard model.
When compared to the previous year, Alphard’s wholesale shipments began to shrink since November, only 174 units, then December 7 units. Different from the previous month, which was over two hundred units.
Alphard shipments from Japan were last recorded in November 2021. Even then, only about 78 units, the rest are empty.
Marketing Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor, Anton Jimmi, said this was due to the semiconductor chip crisis which affected Alphard’s production. The Premium MPV car is still being sold for the Indonesian market.
As is known, Toyota has temporarily suspended production facilities, namely Toyota Auto Body Co., Ltd – Fujimatsu Plant will be closed on July 29, July 30, August 2 to 4, 2021. The factory produces Alphard, Vellfire, Noah, Voxy, and Esquire cars. . The suspension then continued from the beginning of last February.
“There is a production problem in Japan, so we have had production issues several times, maybe a production reduction at the end of last year to early this year,” said Anton at the launch of Voxy, Thursday (17/2/2022).
“And hopefully soon this will recover, so starting February, March, April, in the future Alphard production will also increase to reduce waiting time as well,” he continued.
On the other hand this is also part of Toyota’s strategy not to take production late and early in the year.
“In usual January, for CBU, on average, we don’t import. We usually don’t take old VIN codes, because many consumers ask for new VIN codes. So most of them start to be produced in January, and arrive in February, and production in February arrives in March. . It’s just a little technical,” explained Anton.
