Not just in movies or dreams anymore, up lagi flying car looks like it will come true. Currently, trials of flying cars between airports have been successfully carried out.
Reported from BBC, a prototype flying car has completed a 35-minute flight between Nitra international airport and Bratislava, Slovakia. The vehicle called AirCar, which is a hybrid of a car and a plane, uses a BMW engine and gasoline like a car in general.
The maker of this car, Prof. Stefan Klein said his work can fly about 1,000 kilometers at an altitude of 2,500 meters and has so far clocked 40 hours in the air.
Meanwhile, to be able to fly, this car must first change its appearance into an airplane by removing the folded wings along the sides of the car. This change itself takes 2 minutes 15 seconds.
Prof. Klein drove it straight from the runway into the city area as the car landed again. The process was witnessed by journalists who were invited to see firsthand the ability of this flying car.
Klein said the flying experience was like a normal Monday morning and a lot of fun. When flying, this car is driven at a speed of 170 km / h.
The capacity of the flying car can carry two people with a combined weight of 200 kg. For its own operation, this flying car cannot land vertically and requires a runway.
Seeing this success, there are high expectations for the flying car market. In 2019, consulting firm Morgan Stanley estimated the sector could be worth USD 1.5 trillion by 2040.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motors Europe Chief Executive, Michael Cole mentioned the concept flying car this as part of our future. This is said to be a potential solution to the current transportation infrastructure problem.
