Northug erupts in NRK report: Warns of possible comeback

– I have a serious substance abuse problem consisting of alcohol, drugs and pills in connection with periodic hard fasting. There has been a lot of hard partying lately. I have not taken it seriously, denied it and hidden it from those around me. The consequence is that it has become very serious and extensive, admitted a weighty Northug.

Now there are many indications that this was probably the turning point for the 34-year-old.

This autumn, there have been constant reports of tough training sessions, mood, profits and courage. Former national team colleagues have stated that Northug has impressed, and that it seems that he now means business.

The father John Northug also confirms that the son is motivated to move on and deal with the past.

– Getting help is important, and having good people around me. Then I look forward to a good life afterwards, was the last thing Northug said after the 45-minute press conference in August.

When NRK met Northug in Trondheim, TV viewers get a clear message from a bubbly and offensive Northug. Not only does he talk about rising form – he also announces a possible comeback on the ski slope already before Christmas.

– I will not be surprised if I become the World Cup winner this year. Maybe I sign up for Beitostølen, says Northug with a smile.
