North Korea’s Second Attempt at Military Spy Satellite Launch: US Denounces Violations of UN Resolutions

North Korea’s first attempt to put a military spy satellite into orbit on May 31 was unsuccessful. However, Pyongyang said it would take the necessary corrective action and conduct a second launch soon.

Washington denounced such efforts and said that the DPRK is using ballistic missile technology, which violates numerous UN Security Council resolutions and poses a risk of destabilizing the security situation in the region and beyond.

“The dangerous and destabilizing nuclear and missile programs of North Korea threaten peace and stability in the region,” said US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

It is reported that the meeting of the UN Security Council was convened by the US together with Albania, Ecuador, France, Japan, Malta and the UK.
