The French Foreign Ministry said that Russia refused to hold a meeting in the Normandy format with France, Ukraine and Germany at the ministerial level to discuss the conflict in the Donbass, and deny that they did not respond to Moscow’s proposals.
“This is not true,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Anne-Claire Legendre said, commenting on Russia’s statement that neither Paris nor Berlin responded to the Kremlin’s proposals on a draft preparatory statement for such a meeting.
“France and Germany responded to Russia’s proposals. They proposed holding a ministerial meeting in the Normandy format, which the Russian foreign minister refused,” the speaker explained.
Yesterday, November 8, Lavrov saidthat Russia refused to participate in the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Normandy Four, which France and Germany proposed to hold on November 11, in particular, due to the fact that France and Germany “did not react to the RF proposals for a meeting.”
The last meeting in the Normandy format at the leader level was held in December 2019. The leaders of Ukraine, Russia, France and Germany agreed to hold a new meeting in 2020, but it never took place at the highest level.
